Clon company celebrates 35 years in business

CLONAKILTY-based storage tank specialist Carbery Plastics Ltd is this year celebrating 35-years in business.

Carbery is today a leading European manufacturer of rotationally moulded, plastic storage tanks and during the past 35 years, founder and Managing Director, Michael McCarthy has witnessed significant changes in the storage tank industry.

Eli Lilly plan Kinsale expansion

THE Eli Lilly pharmaceutical plant at Dunderrow, Kinsale is set for major expansion if planning is granted for a new 22,000 sq m bio-pharma building.

The US giant is already one of West Cork’s biggest employers and has been expanding into the bio-pharmaceutical area for some time.

West Cork plant in pioneering linkup

MSD’s Brinny pharmaceutical plant has joined forces with Sligo IT in a pioneering online education programme that the college has described as “groundbreaking”.

The programme is aimed at staff at MSD’s Brinny facility but will be delivered mostly online, direct from Sligo.

Among the courses on offer are BScs in Biopharmaceutical Science or Biopharmaceutical Science, a Masters in Biopharmaceutical Science or a Higher Certificate in Science.

Jobs gained and lost

THE news that Clonakilty has secured 20 new high-end jobs with Easylink at the West Cork Business Park has been tempered somewhat by the announcement in the same day that Eli Lilly in Kinsale is seeking 60 to 70 voluntary redundancies.

The new jobs at Easylink who already employ 25 in Clonakilty will mainly be in accounting and finance positions with the global messaging company.

Staff at pharma company Eli Lilly’s Dunderrow plant which employs 450 people have been informed that the company are seeking up to 70 voluntary redundancies.
