West Cork seafood company part of new joint venture in China

Donal Buckley, BIM; Yan Zhao, Jade Ireland; Peter Sullivan Green, Shellfish de la Mer; Billy Carr, Carr Shellfish; Lorcan Barden, Sofrimar; Hugh McBride, McBride Fishing and Declan Kelleher, Ireland’s Ambassador to China.

FOUR of Ireland’s most successful seafood companies, Shellfish de La Mer from Castletownbere; Cork-based Carr Shellfish; McBride Fishing, Donegal and Sorimar from Wexford have come together to set up Jade Ireland Seafood Limited, a joint venture company with an office based in Shanghai.

 

 

Following assistance from Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the Seafood Development Agency and Bord Bia, the Irish Food Board, the companies agreed a strategic business plan for the joint venture and as part of this plan a new brand, Ocean Jade, has been developed.

West Cork oil boom to be worth billions

OIL exploration company Providence Resources have today revised upwards estimates of how much oil can be extracted from the Barryroe Oil Field off the coast of West Cork.

 

In its latest assessment, Providence estimates that the field should produce in the region of 280m barrels of oil.

90 jobs to go at Brinny pharma plant

MERCK Sharpe & Dohme (MSD) has confirmed that 90 people will lose their jobs at their pharmaceutical plant at Brinny near Innishannon.

 

The 450 strong workforce attended a meeting at 2pm today called by management where the announcement was made.

Receiver appointed to Kinsale Hotel

The Carlton Hotel, Kinsale has gone into receivership.

ALL 94 staff at the Carlton Hotel in Kinsale will retain their jobs, despite the appointment of an official receiver it has been confirmed.

 

Kieran Wallace of KPMG has been appointed as receiver for the hotel which will continue to trade as normal and honour all existing bookings.

There’s more oil in Barryroe site says exploration company

IRISH oil exploration company Providence Resources says there could be even more oil than first thought in the Barryroe oilfield off the West Cork coast.

 

The company has just published the initial results of a survey of the oil field that lies 50km of the West Cork coast.

Major expansion for Eli Lilly in Kinsale

Richard Bruton made the announcement

PHARMACEUTICAL giant Eli Lilly have announced a new €330m investment in Kinsale that will create 200 full-time jobs and another 300 in the construction phase.

The announcement was made today at the Carlton Hotel, Kinsale by Jobs Minister Richard Bruton.

The company is to begin work immediately on the new manufacturing plant at its existing facility at Dunderrow near Kinsale.

Half of West Cork families struggle to pay bills

Half of families are struggling with regular bills.

THE Irish League of Credit Unions says that half of families across the country are struggling to pay their regular bills as the recession shows no signs of ending anytime soon.

In a report published today more than a quarter of respondents said that they had very little money left after all of their domestic bills had been taken care of each month.
