“The Pantry,” Kenmare’s wholefood store on Henry Street, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month (April).

 

The Pantry sells organic foods, local produce, organic wine, herbal tea, alternative medicines, essential oils and nutritional supplements.

West Cork Londis stores supporting Irish food producers

Londis Stores across West Cork and the whole country have joined forces to help promote the Clonakilty breakfast range as part of their policy of promoting indigenous Irish companies.

 

Following last year’s rollout of a national chill distribution service by ADM Londis indigenous local companies can now distribute their products to more than 400 Londis stores in Ireland including Walsh’s, Clonakilty and Dunmanway, Hernon’s, Bandon and Hennessy’s in Skibbereen.

“Major concerns” as West Cork’s first Tesco superstore gets green light

THE recent granting of planning approval for what will be West Cork’s first Tesco superstore has met with a mixed reaction from local businesses, many of who fear the development will damage existing locally owned enterprises.

 

The €10 million, 25,000 sq ft mega-store has been approved for a seven-acre site at Newtown on the Glengarriff side of Bantry (next to Rowa) and developers Richard Coffey and Donal Hunt say the new Tesco will create up to 150 full and part-time jobs when it opens in December, injecting €3m in wages into the local economy each year.

Day of festive fun launches Dunmanway’s Christmas Love local campaign

DUNMANWAY Enterprise Network launched its Christmas Love local campaign with a bumper day of entertainment that included live music, set dancing and carol singing on Saturday, December 8th last.

 

The addition of Santa’s post box proved a very welcome attraction as the younger kids got an oppourtunity to post their letters as well as meet the man himself as he arrived in the Square to collect the kids letters and turn on the lights.

TWENTY five retailers in Bandon and Clonakilty are looking forward to a prosperous Christmas season and New Year with the aid of a new retail training programme funded and managed by The West Cork Enterprise Board.

 

 

The intensive programme which took place over the past two months provided participants with the knowledge and expertise to progress their retail businesses and plan ahead for a successful 2013 with the guidance of well known retail guru, James Burke.

Local businesses backing Christmas shopping campaign

DUNMANWAY Enterprise Network will carry out a flyer campaign coming up to Christmas, where 4,000 flyers will be distributed locally by An Post to make the shoppers aware of the attractions in the town over the December 7th-8th period.

The flyer will explain in detail the attractions on offer in Dunmanway as the festive shopping period kicks off in earnest, along with providing shoppers with a list of participating businesses and what they offer.

THE first citizens of the towns in West Cork have issued a joint statement appealing to people to shop in their local towns in the lead up to Christmas.

 

Town Mayors Cllr. Gillian Coughlan, (Bandon); Cllr. Kathleen Tessyman, (Bantry); Cllr. Cionnaith Ó Súilleabháin, (Clonakilty); Cllr. Billy Lynch, (Kinsale) and Cllr. Karen Coakley, (Skibbereen), were joined in the appeal by County Councillor Declan Hurley from Dunmanway (which has no Town Council or Mayor), when they met up at a specially-convened meeting recently.

New DID Electrical store to open in Bandon

RETAIL chain DID Electrical are to open a new branch at the former Flor Griffin Superstore site on the Bandon Bypass.

 

The new store, DID’s 22nd, is expected to create 15 new jobs and will be the 100% Irish-owned company’s first branch in Cork.
