LABOUR TD for Cork South West, Michael McCarthy, has welcomed the announcement of the establishment of the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF), which will see the winding up of the National Pension Reserve Fund (NPRF), and the €6.4 billion it contains used for commercial investment in Ireland.

Phil O’Regan is new Clon mayor
COUNCILLOR Phil O’Regan was elected as the new mayor of Clonakilty at the town Council’s AGM.
Phil O’Regan’s deputy will be Ann Cullinane.
She is likely to be the last mayor of Clonakilty as all of the country’s 82 town councils are facing abolition at next year’s local elections.
O’Donovan seeks assurances about Bantry Oil Storage Facility
FIANNA Fáil Senator Denis O’Donovan has raised concerns about the proposed sale of the Bantry Oil Storage Facility by its multi-national owners Phillips 66.
Senator O’Donovan said, “The Bantry facility, which has a storage capacity of 7.5 million tonnes, is considered one of the best fuel storage facilities in Europe following significant investment over the past 15 years. It holds a large portion of this country’s national oil reserve and is of strategic importance to Ireland in terms of energy policy.
Boundary changes an attack on West Cork democracy
THE redrawn local election boundaries recently announced by Minister Phil Hogan will result in “a massive deprivation of representation” for people in West Cork, that’s according to local Fianna Fáil senator Denis O’Donovan.
The changes will see West Cork’s four electoral areas (Bantry, Bandon, Macroom and Skibbereen) replaced by a new West Cork area which runs from Beara to Courtmacsherry, a new Bandon and Kinsale area and a news Macroom area that will now also include Blarney.

Clon set to hold referendum on future of town council
CLONAKILTY is set to become the first town in the country to hold a full-scale referendum on whether or not local people want to retain their local town council.
The move came following a packed meeting in O’Donovan’s Hotel in the town on Tuesday night chaired by the current town mayor, Cllr Cionnaith Ó Súilleabháin.
