Bookshop Band Irish tour comes to Kinsale

A UNIQUE “Bookshop Band” from the UK will be appearing at the Bookstor in Kinsale on April 30th as part of their upcoming Irish tour.

The Bookshop Band write songs inspired by books and are bringing their uniquely-inspired and accomplished songs to bookshops throughout Ireland.

 

Since their first event in September 2010, the band has written over 70 songs inspired by 39 books from Andrew Miller’s Pure (2011 Costa Novel of the Year) to China Mieville’s acclaimed science-fiction novel Embassytown.

West Cork Literary Festival now taking bookings

BOOKING for this summer’s West Cork Literary Festival is now open and Mary Robinson, Melvyn Bragg, Anne Enright, Ahdaf Soueif and Nuruddin Farah are just some of the headliners to appear at the 2013 West Cork Literary Festival in Bantry, which takes place from Sunday 7 to Saturday 13 July.

 

The Festival will feature readings and talks that cover a broad spectrum of topics, ranging from ocean rowing to the Arab spring, from Jane Austen’s nieces to James Joyce’s daughter, from olive trees to OCD, and everything in between.

pat-the-barberAfter a very fun and lively last meeting on the thorny subject of ‘What is Normal?’, the West Cork Philosophical Society will re-convene on Thursday 14th March, 8 pm, at the Ballydehob Social Club for a thought-provoking night: “The Rose and the Stone- an evening with Pat Crowley” following the launch this week of his book of the same name.

 

The meeting after that will take place on Thursday 18th April, 8pm, at The West Cork Hotel where Ian Bailey LLM who has just received his Masters in Law will host “Jurisprudence- an introduction to the philosophy of Law”.

WCAC presents talk on The Atlas of The Great Irish Famine

Pat Hickey, Atlas Contributor, Historian and Local Famine Expert

 

The atlas has in excess of seven hundred pages and includes expert analyses from over fifty contributors.
