THE people of Clonakilty, Rossmore and surrounding areas turned out in force on Sunday to welcome home the members of the Kilmeen Drama Group who scored an historic third victory in a row at the All Ireland Open Drama Finals held in Athlone over the weekend.

THE curtains were pulled on Saturday night on the very successful 61st All Ireland Confined Drama Finals in the theatre Rossmore after the insightful adjudicator Padraic McIntyre presented the results and awards to a jovial and packed theatre.

 

The colourful closing ceremony followed the final production by Galway’s Glenamaddy Players of ‘Moment’ by Irish playwright Deirdre Kinahan.

McCarthy welcomes “surge” in 2013 visitor numbers

LABOUR TD for Cork South West, Michael McCarthy, has welcomed the latest tranche of tourism figures from the CSO which show a strong surge in the number of trips to Ireland so far this year.

 

“The positive trajectory regarding growth in our tourism sector continues. Today’s figures from the CSO reaffirm my belief that Irish tourism is not just bouncing back, but actually enjoying strong growth, with overall trips to Ireland up 7.4% in the first three months of the year.

West Cork school are county history champions

PUPILS at Scoil Náisiúnta Rae na Scríne received the top award of “Overall Best School” in county Cork with their history project on The Reenascreena Woollen Mills 1850-1955.

 

It was with great excitement that pupils, parents and staff boarded the bus to travel to The Silver Springs Hotel in Cork to accept their trophy.

THE West Cork Drama Festival committee, based in the theatre, Rossmore, are delighted to have the honour of hosting the 61st All Ireland Confined Drama finals from April 19-27th this year (the open finals are always in Athlone).

 

While the recipe for the renowned Clonakilty Blackpudding, primary sponsor of the festival, remains secret, the drama festival ‘ingredients’ are now known.

PUPILS at Scoil Náisiúnta Rae na Scríne welcomed their Easter Chicks again this year. Under the strict supervision of Peter Óg Hill, eggs from last years chickens were placed in the incubator on February 26th calculted to hatch on March 20th.

Londis Stores across West Cork and the whole country have joined forces to help promote the Clonakilty breakfast range as part of their policy of promoting indigenous Irish companies.

 

Following last year’s rollout of a national chill distribution service by ADM Londis indigenous local companies can now distribute their products to more than 400 Londis stores in Ireland including Walsh’s, Clonakilty and Dunmanway, Hernon’s, Bandon and Hennessy’s in Skibbereen.
