Big weekend for Clonakilty rugby

clon-rugbyby Loose Head

Clonakilty’s senior rugby players now know exactly what they have to do to avoid having to play off to retain their senior status.

The league, as ever, goes right down to the wire with only two clear facts facing into the final weekend. Rainey Old Boys, Clon’s opponents this Saturday have already been crowned champions and will play their rugby in the higher division next season.

Drifted away…

Adrift at Dunmore House.

Adrift at Dunmore House.

My friend Tina Pisco recently posted on facebook a advice that decluttering the house and cleaning it might be help against writers block. Maybe it’s that I painted and reorganized my kitchen last week or is it the buzz in town with the west cork really, the spirit of 400 years Clon that I came out of it ?

Something is in the air, I struggled since a while to write a review about my favourite lunchtime location, and people who know me well, also after work location, the Scannels in Clonakilty. [Read more...]

Fianna Fáil mortgage resolution office proposal is “hare-brained” says TD

Jim Daly TD

Jim Daly TD

FINE Gael Cork South West Deputy, Jim Daly has slammed what he called the opportunistic and populist approach taken by Fianna Fáil in proposing an independent Mortgage Resolution Office to act as an arbiter between banks and borrowers in coming to mortgage and debt resolution agreements.

“The showboating from Fianna Fáil in proposing that an appeal board should decide what amount of money banks should be repaid from distressed borrowers who cannot meet outstanding loans is unrealistic, unviable and a potentially toxic idea.

Clonakilty may face playoff for survival

by Loosehead

Clonakilty 15, Naas 21

Clonakilty may well have to face a play-off with one of the provincial junior champions to maintain their 12 year senior All Ireland League status following a narrow heart-breaking loss to Naas last Saturday in The Vale.

It was billed as a must win game and it may well prove to have been that given results elsewhere.

If this is to be their fate it will most definitely not be because of this game and the finger will be pointed at the away games with Sligo and Suttonians where three try and big leads were squandered.

The team that turned up against Naas would have comfortably taken ten points from those games and Clon would have gone on to contest the placing’s at the other end of the table.

Nasty Naas next

by Loose Head

Clonakilty returned from Limerick last Saturday, a very disappointed group, having lost what was seen by most observers as a must win game to ensure safety.

The truth is a win would have probably achieved this but opposed by a determined Thomond, faced with exactly the same challenge, they were unable to summon up the necessary plays to win and went down badly gifting a bonus point to the Limerick men in the process.
