This will provide members with many opportunities to take some varied and diverse photos. Names to Nicholas asap please.

Donna Burke & Mary Ann McCarthy Two Oar Challenge Silver medallists Ladies

THE  build up to the 2013 rowing season continues to ramp up for the members of the GalleyFlash.

 

The second GalleyFlash Two Oar Challenge was held on Sunday May 5th, teams from across West Cork and further afield competed for the title of Two Oar Champion 2013.

In the end it was the home team of John Harrington and Dave McCarthy coxed by Julie Harrington who emerged victorious in the men’s event. While the top Galley team in Ladies event were Donna Burke and Mary Ann McCarthy with cox Julie who finished second to a very strong Kilmacsimon team.

U12 FB Croke Park 030413Kilmeen U12 Footballers travel to Croke Park

 

Recently, the Kilmeen U12 footballers travelled to Croke Park to take part in a Munster Football Blitz. On the day these young stars played Cromane (Kerry), Foilmore (Kerry) and Cooraclare (Clare).

 

They performed exceptionally well and won two of their three matches comprehensively. They then went on a tour of the stadium and museum. This well-organised event was hugely successful for the children, parents and mentors involved. Thanks to Pauric Reilly for all his work with these players over the past number of years.

Clon to wrap up season with a party

A historic season in many ways draws to a close as the underage celebrate and the senior section regroup. In line with the determination to bounce back from the recent setback the season will not end on a low note, rather it will go out with a bang celebrating all the qualities and achievements of which Clonakilty can be justifiably proud.

 

The club is holding a Barbecue and Social Night in The Vale on this Saturday night May 11th to mark 35 great seasons of Clonakilty Rugby. The club is also delighted to announce that guest of honour for the evening is Munster and Ireland rugby player, Grand Slam winner Laura Guest. Festivities kick off at 9.00pm.

THIS year’s Transition Year Business Projects Awards were announced at a prize-giving ceremony in the Aula Maxima, University College Cork with a team from Maria Immaculata Community College, Dunmanway taking third place overall.

 

The team from Mount St. Michael in Rosscarbery were also awarded special recognition for their efforts.

 

The Transition Year Business Project Awards is an initiative of the UCC Faculty of Commerce and Cork Chamber and are kindly sponsored by BNY Mellon, a global investments company and major employer in Cork.

Sinn Féin “talking rubbish” on public sector savings claims TD

FINE Gael Cork South West TD Jim Daly, has accused Sinn Féin TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn of “talking rubbish” about possible savings in the public sector.

 

Deputy Daly was speaking after Deputy Mac Lochlainn claimed that capping public sector salaries at €100,000 would save €165 million.

Clon RFC notes – Last Chance Saloon

Clonakilty’s troubled season will come to an end this Saturday in The Vale when they host Richmond for Ireland’s last remaining senior ranking position for season 2013 – 2014. By finishing in second last position in the league they threw themselves a lifeline with a play-off against Munster Junior champions and All Ireland Senior Qualifying League runners-up, Richmond from Limerick.

 

Clon’s improved form in recent times and home advantage may well have them as favourites but if so the underdog tag will suit Richmond perfectly.
