As part of the Bealtaine Festival, West Cork Arts Centre will screen The Last Statue Maker in Cork. This short film tells of one man’s life and work. Maurice O’Donnell’s lifelong fascination with statues, grew from modelling figures from turf as a small child, to an apprenticeship at Bernardi’s Statue Shop in Cork, to time spent in Italy studying with the great masters. His work has been exhibited all over the world and he continued to make statues right up to his eighties. The documentary also tells the stories of some of the statues themselves, including the famous ‘moving’ statue of Ballinspittle, which was one of Maurice’s creations. [Read more...]

CINEMA’S in West Cork offer the best value movie going experience in the whole country, that’s according to a recent survey carried out for RTÉ television’s Consumer Show.

 

The show surveyed 37 cinemas across the country on the price of a regular adult ticket, a small popcorn and a small drink.

Kealkil’s movie makers set for Bantry premier

CappabueCAPPABUE National School , Kealkil has enjoyed further success in its film-making endeavours by winning third place overall at the Fresh Film Festival in Limerick.

 

“Fáilte Isteach” was made by the whole school, with all students taking part multiple times in a unique ‘one shoot’ method.

West Cork film to be screened on RTÉ

WEST Cork film-maker Pat Collins’ first feature film Silence will be screened on RTÉ 1 this Thursday, March 28th at 11pm.

 

Part of Silence was shot in the Baltimore area and in Lough Hyne; the film will be distributed in the UK later this year by New Wave Films.
