West Cork couple found guilty of handling stolen property

A LITHUANIAN national living in West Cork has been jailed for a year and banned from Ireland for five years on his release arising out of an investigation into a spate of burglaries throughout Cork and Kerry where over €90,000 worth of property was stolen.

Gardaí in Macroom have arrested three men following a drugs seizure at Derreenaling, Ballyvourney.

 

The discovery was made on the evening of Tuesday, April 23rd when Gardaí from the Cork West Divisional Drugs Unit searched land at Derreenaling and discovered a sophisticated cannabis grow house located underground.

Appeal refused for Dunlough Bay smuggler

A CONVICTED drug smuggler’s appeal against his conviction for his part in the Dunlough Bay drugs haul has been refused by the Court of Criminal Appeal.

 

Fifty three-year-old Perry Wharrie, from Essex in England, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his part in the biggest ever drugs seizure in the history of the state discovered at Dunlough Bay on the Mizen Peninsula in July 2007.

BUSINESSES from both West Cork and Kerry and set to join forces in the fight against crime with the launch of the first ever cross-county crime prevention group later this month.

 

Beara Business Watch is made up of concerned businesses from the Cork and Kerry parts of the Beara Peninsula and also involves participants from Kenmare and Glengarriff with the full support of local gardaí based in those towns as well as in Castletownbere.

A FARMER near Baltimore used cannabis instead of cash to pay construction workers who were building a house for him, it has emerged in court.

 

John McFadden (57) who is originally from London disclosed his novel bartering system to investigating gardaí after his property, a 50-acre cattle farm at Trafraska, was raided and cannabis plants found on the premises.

WEST Cork gardaí are warning local businesses to be on alert after a five figure sum was stolen from a safe at a local hotel.

 

According to gardaí the suspect slipped the lock of the door to enter the room where the safe was contained during normal trading hours.

GARDAÍ in Kinsale are seeking the public’s assistance in relation to a serious assault that occurred on Tuesday, January 29th last at approximately 10.30pm at Compass Quay in the town.

 

A 18-year-old woman sustained injuries as a result of the assault.

“Huge disappointment” at closure of Beara garda station

A PUBLIC public meeting was held at the Caha Centre in Adrigole on the Beara Peninsula recently to discuss the closure of Adrigole Garda Station at the end of January.

 

The meeting was attended by inspector Joe O’Connor, Sergeant Fachtna O’Donovan and Garda Aidan Cremin who is now being transferred to Castletownbere Station.

Gardaí hunt suspects after seven incidents across West Cork in one day
