CORK County roads are set to benefit from €40 million under the 2013 local and regional roads fund, which has been announced by the Department of Transport, but the future is rough for West Cork roads, warns Dunmanway-based independent councillor Declan Hurley.

 

According to Cllr Hurley the allocation received for regional and local roads for 2013 is almost €46.5m and will be spent on the completion of specific projects and on routine improvements and restoration works, but this he says still falls “a long way short” of addressing the real scale of the disastrous road conditions around the county.

Clonakilty Bypass roadworks to begin at last

IT has been described by many as like driving on the moon; there was even a suggestion made that the 22 Fine Gael councillors in Cork County should cycle the road to inspect its condition; but now, finally work is to begin on one of the worst stretches of the N71 in West Cork, the Clonakilty bypass.

 

 

Work will begin next Monday, November 19th at the western end of the town and will proceed eastwards from the Maxol Garage.

Funding for flood repairs to local roads

LOCAL independent councillor Declan Hurley has confirmed that funding has been diverted to address a number of local roads in the greater Dunmanway area which were damaged in the recent severe flash floods.

In particular roads in Haremount, Monavadda and Derryleigh had to be closed to traffic due to the severity of the damage. [Read more...]
