National Drawing Day on Saturday 18 May
Life Drawing
Artists and students are invited to take part in a life drawing session at West Cork Arts Centre as part of National Drawing Day on Saturday 18 May. Drawing Day was started in 2004 by the National Gallery of Ireland’s Education Department and has developed into a nationwide event, held in partnership with national and local museums, galleries and cultural centres.

“Now Wakes The Sea”, the open submission exhibition and award for Irish And UK artists has been announced by the Kinsale Arts Festival For 2013.
The initiative aims to support outstanding emerging talent in the visual arts.

Tara Brandel’s new solo work Gawky & Awkward is a very personal piece, revealing the things we struggle with and a dancer’s creative journey through dyslexia. The work is directed by Caroline Bowditch (previously Scottish Dance Theatre’s Dance Agent for Change) and incorporates an original score by disabled composer Charlotte White.
OPENING at West Cork Arts Centre on Saturday May 4th is Octagon, an exhibition of painting, print, drawing, mixed-media, video and sound works by West Cork-based artists - Alison Cronin, Marie Cullen, Sharon Dipity, Paul Forde-Cialis, Ian Humphreys, Tess Leak, Susan Montgomery and Sarah Ruttle, which showcases the diverse studio practices of 8 artists who facilitate creative learning programmes at the Centre. The exhibition opens to the public at 3.00pm this Saturday and runs until Saturday June 8th.

TO have two creative arts under one roof is a treat,- for all art and music lovers and this is what the four artists presenting “A Symphony of Colour” – an art exhibition at the Cork School of Music have set out to do.
“A Symphony of Colour” brings together the work of June Matthews, Maree O Sullivan, Sue Jacob and Olive Coleman, who all have very different styles , but are all drawn together by the common bond of colour.
Maree J O’Sullivan is silk painter, and as a professional floral designer, does some wonderful, large, colourful floral pieces, which look so luxurious being in silk, and are very eye catching! She also has some interesting pieces in mixed media, using some unusual materials and effects. She is originally from Bantry and works in Paradise Flowers, Bantry.

The National Learning Network (NLN), Bantry, in partnership with West Cork Arts Centre (WCAC) are developing a new, permanent, outdoor artwork for the public garden at the NLN premises at Donemark.
OPENING this Friday 12th April, West Cork Arts Centre’s annual Youth Event includes See for Yourself, an exhibition of artwork by young people from West Cork; film screenings for schools; poetry workshops with award-winning performance poet Dave Lordan and a pop-up outdoor performance somewhere in Skibbereen by WCAC’s Youth Theatre.

This panel discussion coincides with the launch of artist Sarah O’Brien’s publication, Pilot Plot.
A NEW exhibition at the Millcove Gallery, Castletownbere, Small Wonder represents two years’ work in ink, acrylic and watercolour by John Brennan.
In this exhibition he is working to a smaller scale than heretofore; his watercolour paintings are worked in delicate layers, allowing the history of the painting to remain visible along with the paper.
