A FORTY six-year-old Englishman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his part in the Dunlough Bay drugs smuggling operation in 2007.

Steven Brown was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court in London today (Friday) for his part in the attempt to land €440 million worth of cocaine on the Mizen Peninsula.

He had been extradited from Spain to the UK where he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import the drugs into Britain.

The plan failed when the smugglers put diesel into the petrol engine of a RIB being used to transport the drugs ashore in West Cork from the catamaran Lucky Day.

The rib stalled and capsized in rough conditions ditching 62 bales of cocaine into the water.
