Saturday 24th June marked the end of the Muslim fasting period of Ramadan. Accordingly, the Muslim community held a service of prayer and celebration in Bandon Town Hall on Sunday morning 25th June.

This event is known as Eid-al-Fitr Mubarak, and following prayers, there was a social gathering. Approximately 100 Muslims from across West Cork attended the event.

Garda Damian White, Community Garda based in Bandon, was also in attendance, and extremely glad to be given the opportunity to address the gathering.

Garda White outlined that the role of An Garda Siochana is to work with all people to prevent issues or problems in our community. He also gave details about the supports offered by Gardai. He emphasised that the Muslim community had nothing to fear from the Gardai, and that they were seeking to foster a good relationship, and build bridges.

He also provided a Garda Information Stand, with information on crime prevention, personal safety and home safety.

Garda White was warmly welcomed by those present, and he would like to express his sincere thanks to the organisers for allowing him the opportunity to be present and speak.
