When it comes to what we eat, one of the most important questions we can ask ourselves is “Where does my food come from?”
In Cork, we are blessed to have access to the best foods of all kinds produced in Ireland, and Ireland has some of the best produce in the world. But how well do you know where the food on your plate comes from?
We only have to go back to our parents and grandparents generations when they knew the local beef farmer, fisherman, cheesemaker, brewer, distiller and so on.
Since then, we rapidly began to lose the connection with our local food producers, but we don’t have to accept that that’s just how things are now. It is easier that you might think to know the name of your local butcher, baker, coffee roaster and chocolate maker!
Pamela Kelly, head chef of Market Lane and Kate Ryan of Flavour.ie have both made food provenance, (where our food comes from), their most important message in working with food. Pamela personally knows the people behind the products that are showcased on the menu at Market Lane and Kate gives life to the stories of the people behind great Cork produce in her food writing, events and tours.
From The Producer to The Plate is a journey through the stories of our innovative food producers and the dedication they bring to creating beautiful things for us to eat. Join us at our table as we tell our version of Cork’s food story through the eyes of two friends who have a love of food from our County.
After a welcome reception of canapés, cocktails, fizzy and jazz take your seat at the table to dine on a menu exclusively designed by Pamela. Each course is paired with a drink from a selection of the great brewers and distillers of Cork and accompanied by stories of the producers featured in each course by Kate. Guests will be treated to a few little extra’s along the way too!
Choose to dine with or without the drinks pairing, but of course we’d recommend the full experience!
