A MAJOR gorse fire was brought under control by units of the Cork County Fire Service following several hours battling with the flames on Easter Monday.
The fire occurred in the Kealkil area on both side of the R585 road close to the Cousane Gap and and its largest extent covered hundreds of acres of gorse, forest and other vegetation.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown but the exceptionally dry weather for the time of year had made such outbreaks more likely than usual.
