WHAT talented youth there is in Bandon as seen by the Country Market’s painted egg competition. Keen to revive old Easter traditions to celebrate the end of Lent, the market invited children to submit their painted Pascal eggs to celebrate the end of Lent. The prizes were hand-made chocolate prizes by Katie Buckley, the market’s very own chocolatier.
The judges, two of the local gardai were ‘cracking up’ trying to choose the winners. Characters as widely varied as Humpty Dumpty, a painted pineapple, an Easter lilly, ladybirds and hedgehogs, some Picasso eggs not to mention seriously sinister Harry Potter characters.
The market sends a big thank you to everyone who took part. Special congratulations to Annie Tennyson, the under-eight winner whose lovely ladybird won a white chocolate bunny. Martha O’Flynn’s Humpty Dumpty didn’t fall, but had a great win. Farm fresh eggs are always available at the Country Market on Friday and Saturday mornings. Whether boiled eggs are your favourite, or the more elaborate Eggs Benedict, it is more important than ever to know where your eggs come from.
