THE driver of car that collided with a truck and flipped onto its roof on Wednesday morning was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he was described as having serious injuries.

The accident happened just after 8am on the main N22 Cork to Killarney road between Macroom and Ballingeary at Coolnacaheragh a notoriously bendy stretch of road.

The road was closed for several hours to allow garda forensic specialists to carry out an investigation leading to serious traffic congestion in the area.

The stretch of road is due to be replaced by the long-delayed 2+2 dual carriageway Macroom-Ballyvourney road scheme. The project was confirmed in last year’s capital spending plans but work has still nor commenced.
