Life Saving Sport has been in Ireland since 1948 but in the last ten years it has grown significantly. It is divided into two sections Pool and Ocean and includes categories for Nippers, Juniors, Seniors and Masters. Here in Cork we are the current All Ireland Champions in Nippers and Masters as well as having a number of Senior and Junior competitors on Irish Squads!
At the moment we are enrolling for our Nipper Pool Programme in West Cork and details are as follows:
– Saturday January 14th at 4.30pm in Dunmanway Swimming Pool
– Sunday January 15th at 7.00am in Clonakilty Park Leisure Centre.
Nippers must be aged 8-14 in 2017. (Born 2009 – 2003) and your child must be able to swim 50m unaided to take part.
Life Saving Sport is unique because as well as gaining confidence in the pool your child will learn life saving skills that may one day save their own life or the life of a friend in a fun and safe environment. Nippers will also have the opportunity to compete for their county in March at the Munster Final and in April at the All Ireland Final.
Nipper Events are varied and challenging and children will learn skills such as diving under obstacles, swimming underwater with fins, putting on fins and rescue tubes quickly to help in rescue, diving from starting block, working as part of a team in relay events, etc. etc.
We are lucky to have amazing Volunteer Instructors who come from many different backgrounds to pass on these important water safety skills – some are parents, some are Irish Water Safety Instructors, some are National Champions and World Champions, some are Cork Beach and Pool Guards without whose help we would not be able to offer this training!
Beginners are Welcome so if you would like to book in your child please text Justin on (086) 8915219 with child’s name and date of birth or email firstname.lastname@example.org with child’s name and date of birth!
Junior, Senior and Master training is also ongoing!
