Conversations & Words featuring Kevin Barry, Cillian Murphy, Donal Dineen & many more at Sounds From A Safe Harbour

Kevin Barry

Sounds from a Safe Harbour have announced their Conversations & Words programme, in association with Creative Ireland, taking place in venues across Cork City, from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th September.

Be a part of this fascinating trail of FREE events, as the festival invites the city to engage in intimate conversations, and listen to inspiring talks from renowned artists, djs, writers, and filmmakers, both from home and abroad. Be inspired by Cillian Murphy, Bryce Dessner, Kevin Barry, and Donal Dineen, among others.

Myles O’Reilly (Arbutus Yarns), Christophe Abric (La Blogotheque) and Brendan Canty (Feel Good Lost), will come together to discuss their own unique approach to Music Video Production at Cyprus Avenue. Cork’s own PLUGD present ‘Sounds from a Radio’ upstairs at the Roundy: based around the idea of a radio show, they will incorporate discussions, live performances and djs, to be recorded and broadcast on respective radio stations. ‘Cork Loves Music’ will introduce some of the city’s most important musical and artistic facilitators, from music education to community radio, featuring Chris Somers (Sample Studios, OneChanceOut), Margaret O’Sullivan (Music Generation Cork, Cork Community Gamelan), Cormac Daly (Sofar Sounds from Cork, Cosmonaut Music) and Eoin O’Shea with Alex El Chakai (Room101Radio). Accompanying the discussion will be live performances from Nialler9 Music Trail guest Sorcha Richardson, as well as acoustic sets from Leeside-resident performers Elaine Malone and Sam Clague.

Donal Dineen and Kevin Barry host ‘Last Night a DJ Saved My Life’ at The River Lee Hotel, swapping notes on inventing ways and means of making sure that music remains, for them, a central part of everything they do. Kevin will also do a reading of his own work in The Oval Bar on Saturday afternoon. Loose Joints, a popular podcast created by Nialler9 and Sally Cinnamon, will talk to special guests about the music that they love, old and new, and will feature a loose collection of songs, tied together by very little logic, and weaved with discussions hosted by Phil Udell (State.ie). Last, but certainly not least, join Cillian Murphy in the intimate surroundings of The Roundy ‘In Conversation’ with Fionn Regan, and in the Crane Lane ‘In Converation’ with Bryce Dessner.

All of the events, presented in association with Creative Ireland, are FREE to attend. Entry will be on a first come first served basis. Join in on the conversation. What are you going to talk about? soundsfromasafeharbour.ie
