Friends of Dunmanway Hospital Group are going all festive this year in their fundraising efforts for Dunmanway Community Hospital. This year instead of a Victorian Tea Party, the group have arranged two events which are truly festive.
A festive CD and a Victorian Christmas Concert. Both events showcase the very best of Dunmanway’s local talent. Exceptional musical talent and performances like none ever heard on CD before nor seen before in St. Patrick’s Church which will take place on December 9th. On December 1st at 11.am the CD, Christmas in Dunmanway 2016 will have its first of two launches, at Supervalu Dunmanway , the artists of the eight track CD will be there and perhaps even the host of the launch , Andrew Healy of SuperValu (who features on the CD), may even be persuaded to sing a bar or two. Refreshments and seasonal nibbles will keep everyone entertained.
That same evening at the Parkway Hotel at 8.30pm those unable to attend during the day are invited to come and meet the “stars” of the CD at a festive event, a great night assured. The evening launch is being sponsored by the Parkway Hotel, whose proprietor , Martin Maybury features on the CD. The Friends of Dunmanway Hospital hope the CD will prove a popular Christmas gift and hope it will be snapped up prior to the postal deadlines to ensure all our relatives and friends get to hear the voices of those from home on Christmas morning. It contains a mixture of old and modern tracks, something for every taste. The CD will be priced at €5 per cd in a specially designed sleeve for the occasion. The idea of a CD replaces that of having a raffle. Rather than running a raffle at the Victorian Christmas Concert , which the group are also hosting on December 9th at St. Patrick’s Church, the organising committee felt that people needed a change from raffles and this way “everyone gets something” , according to a member of the committee. The CD will be available locally and in Supervalu Dunmanway and a few other local outlets.
On December 9th at 7.30pm at St. Patrick’s Church you are invited to attend A Victorian Christmas a wonderful night of festive old world carols, classical musical with a few modern Christmas songs included also. Admission is just €10. Tickets will be available from the end of November at local outlets including Supervalu. This year this event replaces the Victorian Tea Party, however the theme still remains , Victorian, and the organisers are hoping to make this musical event as old-worldly as possible both in ambience and music. It will be an opportunity to hear some of those singing on the CD (but different songs) together with choirs, tenors and other singers. It will also include a children’s choir comprised from the various schools in the area. It will be a wonderful musical evening in a transformed wonderland, an old world candlelit setting of candles and the festive colours to the sounds of the old pipe organ and the grand piano.
Andrew Healy of SuperValu and main sponsor of these events said :- “I was delighted to be approached by the Friends of Dunmanway Hospital to sponsor the grand piano for their forthcoming Victorian Christmas Carols night on December 9th. I knew from the very first second I was asked that it would be an amazing night and wanted to be involved in whatever way I could….. My honest opinion is that anyone that buys the cd will not be disappointed and of course it’s for a great cause, it’s only €5, and it actually sounds amazing. I’ll be on the sales path, along with the committee and the performing artists, so be nice to us! Together we have an opportunity to raise some well needed funds for our fantastic local hospital.”
Councillor Declan Hurley, member of the Friends of Dunmanway Hospital said:
“I would like to acknowledge all the hard work that’s going into making this exciting festive event a great night of musical entertainment. I’m delighted to see the great support and generosity of spirit at which the local community has come behind this special event and in doing so are supporting a great local charity”
The Friends of Dunmanway Hospital Group wish to wholeheartedly express their thanks to their many sponsors in the town , including, Lehanes & Associates, Floral Creations, Galvin’s Centra, Walsh’s Londis, AIB Bank who have contributed to the running of the concert and especially to Andrew Healy of Supervalu & Martin Maybury of the Parkway Hotel (both of who are making their musical debut on the CD) and the new recording studio in Dunmanway – Carrig Sound who gave of their time free to make the dream of a CD become a reality. Carrig Sound is a hugely professional recording studio located in a peaceful country setting on the outskirts of town. They undoubtedly will be a huge asset to the town. Recording at Carrig Sound was so light-hearted, enjoyable and fun. Such an enjoyable atmosphere has been captured on the CD as one can imagine each of the singers smiling and laughing their way through their recording sessions and not a hint of nerves is to be heard. Both Val and Liam of Carrig Sound get the very best from each singer.
Proceeds from the fundraising activities will go back into the local community hospital. Proceeds to date have assisted in purchasing furniture for the hospital day room, different types of chairs for residents, exercise equipment, bedding, curtains, garden equipment, medical equipment, and shower chairs, items which make the life of residents and day care patients a little more like home and comfortable. The Friends of Dunmanway Hospital wish to thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you at the CD launch and the concert…. and to those of you who loved the Victorian Tea Party,…..Jeeves the Butler and Rosie the maid may put in an appearance !
