THE body of a man understood to be in his 30s has been discovered aboard a fishing trawler berthed at the pier in Bantry.
The man is believed to be a Lithuanian national and was pronounced dead at the scene late on Friday evening.
The vessel is Irish registered and had berthed in Bantry following an extended fishing trip off the south west coast.
Crew members alerted the authorities and an investigation has been launched into the circumstances of his death by local gardaí.
A post-mortem was due to be carried out by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster at Cork University Hospital on Saturday.
