THE Bantry Bay Lions held a bucket collection in Bantry on Friday April 21. A total of €688.59 was donated and placed in the Lions Charity account for later allocation. This was a great result and the Bantry Bay Lions club would like to sincerely thank all who contributed.
The Bantry Bay Lions would also like to thank all those who dropped off their used spectacles at the Bantry Hospital, Library and Optician locations.
The spectacles will be sent to Chichester, England for consolidation with other collections from Ireland and the UK.
From there they will be sent to Medecins Sans Frontiers in France where they will be refurbished and distributed to eye clinics throughout the Third World. Hundreds of used spectacles were collected. Think of how many people will be able to see properly due to your contribution. Pictured are some members of the Lions club with the donated spectacles.
The Bantry Bay Lions Club is a non-profit organization and is dedicated to giving back to the community and supporting those in need at home and abroad.
All members are volunteers and pay a yearly membership fee to cover administrative costs. Any costs for travel and sustenance are borne by the members so that 100% of all funds raised go directly to the charity or disaster relief it is collected for.
The members support the local community and provide assistance and financial support to various programs and local organizations. They meet at the Bantry Tourism Office at 7pm on the second Thursday of the month.
