Bantry Bay Lions Club Diary

The Bantry Bay Lions Club attended the Glengarriff Fun Day on August 13. A paint ball shooting game was set up and proved to be very popular, attracting all age groups.

Sharpshooters Saoirse McCarthy, aged 9, and her sister Aoibhin, aged 11were the top scorers with a perfect 6 out of 6. It was an amazing display of accuracy by these two young girls. Aoibhin (left) and Saoirse (right) are pictured receiving their gold medals. The silver medal winner in the under -12 age group was Ciara Casey with a score of 5 and bronze medal went to Donna Casey with a score of 3, after being drawn out of a hat. There were scores of 5 for three people in the over-12 age group.

After drawing names out of a hat, the gold medal winner was Lewis O’Sullivan, silver medal went to Mark Flynn with Jimmy Goggin taking the bronze medal. Congratulations everyone. A total of €270 was raised on the day and a cheque for the same amount was given to the Glengarriff Community Hall fund. Well done to all who participated. The paint ball game will also be at the Bantry Agricultural show on September 3.

Eileen O’Shea completed her one year term as President of the Bantry Bay Lions Club at the end of June. Francis Greaves assumed the role of President for the coming twelve months. Eileen thanked the members for their contribution and support during her term of office and wished Francis a successful and fulfilling year ahead. Eileen would also like to thank the local community for their tremendous support for all the Lions activities during the past twelve months.

The Bantry Bay Lions Club is a non-profit organization and is dedicated to giving back to the community and supporting those in need at home and abroad.  All members are volunteers and pay a yearly membership fee to cover administrative costs. Any costs for travel and sustenance are borne by the members so that 100% of all funds raised go directly to the charity or disaster relief it is collected for.

The members support the local community and provide assistance and financial support to various programs and local organizations. They meet at the Bantry Tourism Office at 7pm on the second Thursday of the month.
