Údarás na Gaeltachta is delighted to congratulate its client company Táirgí Cáise Buabhaill Mhaigh Chromtha Teoranta on their magnificent success on the world stage last week at the World Cheese Awards.
The awards ceremony in San Sebastian, Spain last week saw the Cill na Martra based company scoop a prestigious Gold World Cheese Award for its Macroom Buffalo Mozzarella.

The World Cheese Awards drew entries of all shapes and sizes from 31 different countries worldwide this year. 266 cheese experts from 26 different nations followed them to the Basque Country to taste, nose and grade over 3,000 cheeses in a single day, giving Bronze, Silver, Gold and Super Gold awards to worthy entries.
Macroom buffalo Mozzarella is made from fresh Buffalo milk produced on Johnny Lynch’s farm in Cill na Martra, Co. Cork. Johnny Lynch has the only milking herd of Buffalo in Ireland and in 2015, having put a team together on the business side and Sean Ferry, of the renowned ‘Desmond’ and ‘Gabriel’ cheeses, on the cheese side, started producing Macroom Buffalo mozzarella at a modern purpose built artisan cheese making premises on his farm. Johnny Lynch now has a herd of over 200 buffalo animals on his 140 acre farm based in Cill na Martra in the Cork Gaeltacht near Macroom in County Cork and the animals are thriving in the Irish environment. With the added support of Údarás na Gaeltachta, Táirgí Cáise Buabhaill Mhaigh Chromtha Teo now produces a variety of cheeses including Mozzarella, Ricotta, Greek style salad cheese and Haloumi at it’s state of the art cheese production facility on the farm.
Under the Macroom brand, the company produce every unique Irish products for their customers that blends the very best Irish ingredients to make a traditional Italian cheese. What makes Macrooms products unique is that it is produced using grass fed free range buffaloes grazing in the lush pastures of West Cork. The Mozzarella product won an award at the international Great Taste Awards this year as well as the Gold awarded at the recent World Cheese Awards, which is something we all can be very proud of. Our retail partners, Dunnes, Musgrave, Aldi, Spar and Tesco have taken our unique needs as a Supplier on board, as our cheese products are based on a fresh supply of buffalo milk produced daily delivered fresh to the retail trade, with a limited shelf life.
