The Annual General Meeting of Castletownbere Development Association will take place on Tuesday, 28th February, at 8pm in The Beara Coast Hotel, Castletownbere.
The AGM is to inform members of the local community about our previous year’s activities and hold an open discussion on how best our town should move forward and improve during the coming year. On the night the election of the 2017 committee will also take place. Some members of the current committee will be up for re-election and others will not be continuing, therefore we ask everyone with an interest in the progression of our town to come along, vote and voice your issues.
The Outgoing CDA Committee from 2016:
Chairperson: Darren Lynch.
Vice Chairperson: Cian Murphy.
Secretary: Rozalyn Williams.
Treasurer: Alice Harrison.
PRO: John Galvin.
Committee Members: Celina Sheehan, Keith Hegarty, Kieran Murphy, Killian Martin Sullivan, Mary Tim O’Sullivan, Noel Forde, Viktorija Gecaite & Mark Golden
We want to talk to members of the whole community, not just those in business, so please come along, bring your friends and get involved. Talk to us and find out why we became involved with the CDA, what our roles actually mean and what we get out of it. Getting involved can be at a level that suits you. It does not have to mean sitting on a committee or giving a huge amount of time. If you feel you’d be able to give a few hours directing traffic during one of our events, or if you can help hand out posters and flyers or something like that, please let us know! If the level of involvement you feel comfortable with at the moment is simply coming along and listening, then your attendance is most appreciated.
That being said, we have been a very small committee for the last few years and we do need more members. Fresh people with fresh ideas and different skills to offer will keep the CDA going from strength to strength.
We are perhaps best known for the organisation of the annual Castletownbere Festival of the Sea, which is a family oriented fun-filled week and the best example of the community coming together to showcase what Castletownbere has to offer. It takes place the week of the August Bank Holiday each year, while other smaller events are organised throughout the year. Whilst this in itself is a huge undertaking for a small voluntary group, that is not all we do!
This last year we have worked alongside local T.D’s and members of the local authority on issues such as:
- securing funding for the upgrading & refurbishment of the local playground;
- lobbying for improvement to the road surfaces in and around the town;
- the issue of parking and traffic in Castletownbere and the development of a relief road;
- the developing plans for a new wastewater treatment plant;
- the final stages of the acquisition and development of a property to be used as a community centre;
- applying for funds to refurbish the area around the Square;
We look forward to welcoming you on the night and refreshments will be available afterwards.
