Aldi has further increased its presence in Co. Cork with the opening of its latest store in Skibbereen. A total of 20 new jobs have been created at the new store.
Bringing great quality fresh Irish products and fantastic value to customers, the new Skibbereen store is Aldi’s 21st store in Cork. This brings the total number of Aldi stores in Ireland to 127. The first Aldi store in Ireland opened in November 1999.
To celebrate the opening of the new store, Aldi served up tasty treats throughout the day. All samples were prepared using Aldi products, many of which are sourced from Irish suppliers.
The day was filled with family fun and festivities, with the RedFM team on site playing music and entertainers providing face painting for the kids. There was also loads of spot prizes won, with one lucky customer scooping two tickets to the upcoming Ireland vs New Zealand rugby match.
Speaking at the store opening, Peter Mullins, Manager of Aldi’s new Skibbereen store said, “We are delighted to open our new Skibbereen store and look forward to welcoming many new customers from the local area. Aldi has grown in popularity across Ireland in recent years and we are pleased to make the quality, value and variety of our product ranges available to more people throughout Co. Cork.”
Aldi has established solid roots in many of Ireland’s local communities having developed longstanding partnerships with numerous Irish producers. Suppliers from the local area include Bandon Co-op, which supplies Aldi’s creamy butter, Irish Yogurts of Clonakilty, which supplies Aldi’s multi-award winning Specially Selected Duneen Irish Yogurt range and Carbery of Ballineen, which supplies cheese to Aldi.
In the last five years Aldi has recruited over 70 new Irish suppliers, meaning Aldi now partners with more than 175 Irish producers. Over 50% of Aldi’s supplier spend is now with Irish suppliers, producers and manufacturers. All of Aldi’s fresh meats, fresh poultry, eggs, bread, flour, and many of its teas, coffees, soft drinks, waters and snacks are provided by leading Irish suppliers.
Aldi’s Irish products have a strong track record of dominating national and international food awards. Aldi’s products have won hundreds of awards at the Great Taste, Blas na hÉireann and the Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards in recent years.
