A Taste of West Cork wins Festival of the Year at the Chambers Ireland Awards 2016

CHIEF Executive Cork County Council, Mr. Tim Lucey was thrilled to see Cork County Council scoop an award at the Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards last night.

Speaking at the awards, Mr Tim Lucey said “I am very pleased to see Cork County Council conferred with the award for Festival of the Year with A Taste of West Cork Food Festival. This award is a recognition of the evolving culture we, as an organisation, are operating and excelling in and demonstrates the incredible commitment of staff to innovation in service delivery together with the skill set required to deliver ongoing modernisation and change.”

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Seamus McGrath, also spoke of his delight with the award “These awards select the very best of local authority projects. To have five project selected is a wonderful achievement in the first instance. I was delighted to learn of the projects which were selected and am absolutely elated to see the award for A Taste of West Cork Food Festival presented in what are highly competitive categories with incredible variety of worthy winners.”

The awards, an annual event, showcases best practice in local government and recognises the skills, hard work, innovation and enthusiasm within local government that can often go unrecognised.

Cork County Council was shortlisted for five awards:

Supporting Tourism Category: Fortress Spike Island – Phase 1

Promoting Economic Development Category: Beacon Retail Programme

Sustainable Environment Category: ISO50001 Accreditation

Festival of the Year Category: A Taste of West Cork Food Festival

Enhancing the Urban Environment Category: Clonakilty Urban Design Masterplan

Mayor McGrath went on to say, “I would like to congratulate all who have enabled the delivering of these projects and applaud this success. This award recognises the impact of these projects but what is truly making a difference is how these projects are bringing real and meaningful benefits to the people of Cork.”
