A feast of fabulous fish promised at the RNLI Baltimore Lifeboat’s Fish Supper

October sees the return of the popular RNLI Baltimore’s fundraising Fish Supper at Baltimore Sailing Club. Locals and visitors over the October bank holiday weekend will have an opportunity to sample the best of seafood kindly donated by Baltimore Fishing Trawlers and cooked to perfection by chef extraordinaire Chris Hedges, who has volunteered his culinary services for the occasion.

John O’Brien, Chairman of the RNLI Baltimore fundraising committee said:  ‘Our brave volunteer crews here in Baltimore are drawn from the local area, and are relentless in their provision of a top class rescue service to island communities, boat owners, medical emergencies, the fishing industry, sea-based activities and the general public who enjoy the waters and the wild here, especially around Carbery’s 100 islands.

It’s a 24/7 year round operation, executed with efficiency and empathy, and it is a great comfort to seafarers and others that the Lifeboat is there at the ready, in all weathers.  This year alone Baltimore Lifeboat has responded to 32 callouts in the area, rescuing or assisting an estimated 38 people in 18 craft, and one lucky horse!’

Mr O’Brien went on to say that fundraising is a crucial part of the operation, and there is a constant draw on funds to keep the service afloat and effective.  ‘We wish to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the many volunteers and sponsors who have supported our fundraising efforts through the events run this year. It is so gratifying to receive this local unwavering support, year in year out, and this last event of 2017 will no doubt be well supported also.’

The Fish Supper starts at 7pm (sharp) at the yacht club and wines are available to purchase, complementing the fish delivered straight from the quayside.  Booking is essential and tickets (€25) are available at Bushe’s Bar, Baltimore or from Joan Collins at 086 8030744.    .

The RNLI’s Fish Supper is a national fundraising initiative held every October to raise vital funds for the lifesaving charity.  People are encouraged to host Fish Suppers either at home or in groups, all in a good cause.
